Thierry Henry praises the star of Real madrid vs Man City game: “He has the best football brain I have ever seen”

Thierry Henry and Jamie Carragher debated ranking Kevin De Bruyne alongside the greatest midfielders in football history after his stunning goal for Manchester City against Real Madrid.

The thunderbolt in the second half from De Bruyne raised City’s level with Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals, as the match ended in a 1-1 draw after the first leg in Spain.

Henry used to coach De Bruyne when he was an assistant coach with the Belgium national team, and compares him to iconic Barcelona midfielders Xavi and Iniesta who used to be his teammates.

Meanwhile, Carragher paid tribute to the Belgian and said Champions League glory would cement his place alongside the midfield greats as he spoke on CBS.

“It showed up today,” said Henry. “I don’t think he played a great game but it was an important goal. I have to say I’ve come across a lot of players, and I’ve played with and against some of the greatest players.”

He added: “I think Kevin’s football brain is the best I’ve seen. Because his mind, in some places, I don’t know what he’s thinking sometimes in all fairness. You look at him and it looks like he’s not with us, it could almost be a problem because you’re not at his level.”

He continued, “I think he is the smartest player I have ever seen. It’s just second to none, the way he thinks. I’ve seen him for six years in and out of Belgium, I like the guy a bit more because I’ve seen things he’s done in training and in matches.

He continued: “It’s perfect, unbelievable. Kevin, mind you, I keep thinking about the things I saw and they’re from a different planet.”
